🎮 Today’s Blog: A Fun Yet Challenging Day with Blender & Unreal Engine 5 ✍️ by Suraj Kagda Hey devs and dreamers, Today was one of those fun, exciting, and a little confusing days in my game dev learning journey. I spent my whole session bouncing between Blender and Unreal Engine 5 , and here’s the thing — Blender actually felt easier today compared to UE5. I started by modelling a basic environment — nothing fancy, just some props and structures for practice. Blender’s interface is finally starting to make sense. I can move, scale, rotate, and even experiment with modifiers without constantly Googling. That’s a big win for me! But then came Unreal Engine 5 — and wow, the complexity just spikes up. Importing assets, setting up collisions, lighting issues… it sometimes feels like I fix one thing and two new problems pop up. Don’t get me wrong — UE5 is incredibly powerful. But the learning curve can be steep, especially when you're new to materials, blueprints, and the overa...

🛠️ Learning Unreal Engine & Blender Together: A Game Dev Journey Begins

Image
by Suraj Kagda  Today marks a special step in my game development journey—I’ve officially started learning Unreal Engine 5 and Blender 3D side-by-side. These two tools are incredibly powerful, and combining them is like unlocking the creative freedom to build any world I imagine. 🎮 Why Unreal Engine 5? Unreal Engine 5 is a dream come true for indie developers like me. It offers: Realistic graphics with Lumen and Nanite A strong Blueprint system for visual scripting And most importantly— free access with high-end capabilities I’ve already begun exploring level design, lighting setups, and character movement using Blueprints. The UI felt intimidating at first, but it’s getting easier each day. 🧊 Why Blender 3D? Blender is my go-to for creating 3D models and animations. It’s open-source, and perfect for: Modeling characters and environments Creating game-ready assets Animating objects for export into Unreal Today I modeled a basic crate, textured it, and exp...
